What creates change?

I get asked the same question a lot “how did you close so many deals in your first year?”  This question is usually followed with a statement like “I have been at this for a long time and I haven’t been able to do half of what you have done.”

I have come to believe that there are some people who would like the answer to be long and complicated, maybe to help them understand why they haven’t been able to do the same…  But the answer is simple, I had no other choice, I HAD TO…  After leaving the Army in April of 2010, I no longer had the “security” of a steady paycheck.  I felt lost and unsure of what to do, so I did what was easy, I applied for unemployment.  I spent 6 months procrastinating, I did a semester of college, then I tried applying for a few jobs and kept getting turned down because I was “over qualified.”  However, through my wandering I had an amazing friend Samantha James-Tharp suggest I give real estate a try, I remember her telling me “you would be great at it.”  The only thing she forgot to do was warn me that in order to be successful you had to be fully committed.  It took desperation to ignite the desire for success.  I was down to my last $30.00 dollars, forced to swallow my pride and reach out for help.  My back was up against the wall and I had to make a choice…  Was I ready to give up on all my hopes and dreams?  Was I ready to let someone else control my outcome?  Was I ready to trade my life for a paycheck?  The answer was always NO!  NO I want MY FREEDOM, I want MY LIFE!  I have heard many times before that winning is a state of mind.  If you believe you will win, your right, you will.  It seems too simple but if you don’t change what you are doing what will your life look like?  It didn’t look too good for me…  I was living in a bedroom with my son because I couldn’t afford a place of my own and I didn’t even have enough money for gas…  If I continued down this path where would I be a year from now?  But what if I gave my life ALL MY EFFORT, what would that look like a year or 3 years from now?

I decided to change my life and 12 months later I became the top producer for my office.  24 months later I am with Keller Williams Realty, Inc. and have started implementing the Millionaire Real Estate Agent Models.  By the end of 2013, 3 years later I will have a 7^th level team and the future will be whatever we decided to make it.
